Eco candles - A poll

After a few people asking, I have taken the plunge and bought some soy wax to make some soy candles.

Now before I go any further than this and decide how bigger role they will play, I would like some opinions.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, But what is more important to you? Price, Look, Being "greener" or dont care as long as it smells good?

Please let me know in the comments below!

Edited to add a link for those of you who have requested "educating"  Feel free to have a read

The only thing that I can see that this article fails to mention is the fact that paraffin wax is a by-product of petroleum so therefore produced anyway and The impact soy farming is having on rainforests as documented here

  1. Price, look and smell are important but I like the added 'being green' aspect too. I'm getting better at buying carefully if I can!

  2. I'd like to get better at buying greener. But I have to admit I don't know what the difference is between soy wax and whatever the alternative is. I obviously need educating first? x

  3. I've seen soy candles, but never bought them. Obviously if there are eco-advantages that's brilliant, as long as they still smell gorgeous.

  4. I agreed with Diomoglass above. If I was buying the candle, I would look at all four aspects. I do like a candle that smells nice, looks pretty and has a reasonable price. If on top of all that it's a 'green' candle, even better!

Not sure I've been of much help, have I???

  5. I buy candles for the smell and appearance. Whilst petroleum is still being collected it makes sense to continue to use up the by-product of paraffin. To me it is 'green' to be using the by-products of anything. I like the fact that soy container candles burn longer (I have bought both soy and paraffin container candles in the past) but don't like its softness for free standing candles. I like to buy green but to be honest, at least whilst we still drill for oil, neither seems 'greener' to me. So, in conclusion, I don't mind which they are made of as long as they look and smell good!
